When I first listened to “Guo Yuan Chao”, I was planning to regain my long lost hobby. But I turned over and found that the familiar words had become unfamiliar. “I used to be able to sit down and work on things for hours in a row, but now it’s only been a few minutes, and the whole person is already very impatient.”.This makes me feel anxious and depressed.Have I lost my talent that I don’t have much?At this moment, a slightly mournful melody came from the earphone, along with a slightly cold middle-aged bass, so I listened to it.
This song is “Guo Yuan Chao”, and after listening to it dozens of times, I decided to write something about it.
I once read an article in Jian Shu with the title “Beautiful Song, Not to the Ear, but to the Heart”, and I agree with that. Now, if I think about it, I am attracted by this song because there is a resonance.
“Guo Yuanchao” is Song Dongye’s first single released after the drug abuse incident, and before that, he had not released a new song for three years.
This incident was a turning point in his music career and should also be a turning point in his thinking. His thoughts and insights are hidden in the melody with a sense of “mourning” and the obscure lyrics of “Guo Yuan Chao”.
So I opened the single cycle and wanted to feel the meaning of it.
Song Dongye’s previous hit singles, “Miss Dong”, “Zebra and Zebra”, and “An He Qiao”, have basically kept their melodies in one tone. This is also a common characteristic of folk songs: they attach importance to lyrics and lyricism, and the melody should be as simple and gentle as possible. “Guo Yuanchao” is different, from the gentle and low tone at the beginning to the high pitched shout of the third chorus, the tone goes up all the way, and even has the feeling of shouting at the end. This is somewhat similar to “Lillian.”. This feeling is like drinking alone and pouring out to the shadow on a frustrated night. The thicker the wine, the stronger the feeling.
Song Dongye’s lyrics have always been fragmented and detailed, and he always describes seemingly unrelated artistic conceptions. We are unfamiliar with some of them, and some of them feel the same way, and then follow the lyrics to develop our imagination. The more you imagine, the more you want to understand the meaning behind the song.
The lyrics use two rhetorical devices, one is allusion, and the other is intertextuality.
“You know, their world.” Here, “you” refers to Guo Yuanchao. “
“Their world” refers to the world of folk singers.
“Three sad songs, buy everything”
Some folk singers have limited creative abilities and spend their entire lives tossing about two or three “sad songs” to make a living. This is also Song Dongye’s self mockery.
“To buy a foothold in Kunlun, to open up Penglai’s mind, to buy people’s dispute brewing soup.”
The legendary place where immortals live in Kunlun and Penglai. “Using dispute brewing soup is drinking wine while watching people argue.”. What I want to pursue here is a carefree attitude.
“Buying crows from Princess Tomb, wood from the incident, and hemp from the east window, buying fishing songs from boats in the rouge river, and the laws of everything in the golden world.”
Here are several consecutive images:
The crows at the Princess’s Tomb in Beijing are one of the wonders of Beijing. Because crows represent disaster and misfortune in traditional culture, some good people have fabricated various urban legends.
The wood of hair and the hemp of the east window are from Wan Xiaoli’s “Top”: spinning in the numbness of the east window incident. This should also be a state of hesitation and numbness that suggests the occurrence of the Western Poison Incident.
The boat line fishing songs of the Rouge River are the rules of everything in the golden world. One represents poetic life, and the other is the highest pursuit of philosophy. These two represent the inner yearning of the lyricist.
“Actually, you and I are both the same, and will eventually be forgotten, Guo Yuanchao. Your illness is just like mine. It’s difficult to pull the wind and the moon, and it’s not difficult to leave and leave.”
The term “Feng Yue” refers to things between men and women, while the term “separation” refers to various kinds of separation and integration between people and groups. “Sao” has the meaning of melancholy in ancient Chinese. The whole sentence means being immersed in similar emotions and unable to extricate oneself, but being insensitive to the real separation in life.
“After all, the storeys will lead to juvenile delinquency, and freedom will sooner or later lead to chaos for the rest of our lives.”
Two allusions are cited: Xin Qiji’s “Ugly Slave: The Middle Wall of the Shubo Mountain Path”, “Young people do not know the taste of sorrow, but fall in love with stories. They fall in love with stories. They are forced to express sorrow for the sake of giving new words.” And the Hungarian poet Pei Duofei’s “Life is truly precious, love is more expensive, and if it is for freedom, both can be thrown away.”
This is probably because Song Dongye reflected on his own past and forced to worry about creating when he was young, without truly understanding various tastes. After becoming famous, excessive freedom led to excessive indulgence, and finally the incident happened. Disturbed the rest of his life.
“You and I haven’t met before the mountain, don’t meet behind the mountain.”
This is the farewell of the two people, who have neither met nor met before or after the mountain. It seems that being in this mountain is just a chance encounter. At this moment, when they meet, it is both a first sight and a farewell.
Writing here, I suddenly understood why I found resonance in “Guo Yuan Chao”.
“Guo Yuanchao” is the embodiment of Song Dongye’s talent, supporting his creation. However, due to the indulgence after becoming famous, he finally left him. “After all, high-rise buildings are a mistake for teenagers, and freedom is a waste of time for the rest of his life.” I think in the three years after becoming famous, he didn’t think about continuing to create, but his excessive indulgence led to his inability to do so.
The final phrase “You and I haven’t met before the mountain, don’t meet behind the mountain.” Some things that are lost are lost, and if you want to pick yourself up later, you can only start again.
Perhaps my “Guo Yuanchao” has also left me. “If I want to regain my former feelings, I can only accept this reality and start anew.”.
I can’t believe a song can bring me such thinking.
Perhaps a song is actually a bridge that connects singers and listeners. Although the creator is the engineer of this bridge, from the moment of completion, this bridge does not completely belong to him. Singers build bridges by singing, waiting for this bridge to pass towards the heart of a listener. The old bridge called “Guo Yuan Chao”, erected by Song Dongye, the creator of the stain, is like a fisherman standing on a seawall, facing the distant sea, waiting for his return in an unknown year. “And I’m just a casual person who accidentally steps on the Shanghai embankment and tries to express my worries for the new words.”.
